Andrew Brown, who has run local group ‘Wee Gamers’ for 20 years, has created a new family friendly board game. He says, “I was initially drawn into the games industry via Dr Chris McAuley.” (Acclaimed comic book writer, artist and character creator).
Chris McAuley and Dacre Stoker (great grandnephew of Irish novelist, Bram Stoker) created the Stokerverse, which draws from Dacres notes, Bram’s writing and letters and the creative imaginings of Chris and includes several graphic novels, books and audio dramas in the Dracula universe.
Andrew was involved in many aspects of The Stokerverse and felt compelled to go down the gaming route with this concept. To keep the integrity of the game, Andrew wanted to steer away from other publishers and so ABC Games Design and Development Ltd was born. Using his years of networking and friendships in the industry, he quickly gained business partners Chris McAuley, Alistair Grey Cooper, Krister Sundelin, Leo Boyd and Colin Mayne. From this list, 4 are from Fermanagh, Bangor, Whitehead and Broughshane and have many accolades… too long to list!
Andrew explains, “While we have many games designed or conceptualised, our first had to be Dr Franken’s Dice. Its creation began with a chance comment by Dacre describing how he would love to be able to share Bram’s work and now his work on the Stokerverse with his children and grandchildren. Thus, the idea for Dr Franken’s Dice took shape- a family friendly fast dice game themed around concepts of Bram’s work and horror.
It’s been a labour of love, made all the more real now that it is entering the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. We were also very lucky to secure the services of the talented Sam Santos who took my own cover design and brought it to life in his unique style. Personally, it’s the cover the game always deserved. I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such passionate and talented people and working on property like the Stokerverse and Claudia Christians Dark Legacies. Though all the more exciting is the chance to make great games, that bring people together to play, build stories & make memories together.”
