David Hume: Festival Talks

The Ordnance Survey Memoirs: County Antrim’s Doomsday Book of the 19th Century: Saturday 27th July 7pm Whitehead Centre Exhibition Space.

This talk includes extracts from the 1830’s Ordnance Survey of Ireland which look at ancient history, settlements in the area, people, emigrants, customs, diet and housing in the pre-famine years. Free entry.

 

Twa Boys Wi’ a Wheen o’ Yarns- Wine and Cheese Evening: Friday 2nd August 7pm Whitehead Centre Exhibition Space.

A collaboration between two local writers, this brings good friends David Hume and Davey Moore together to talk about history, poetry and writing. Their material ranges from local folklore, the First World War, experiences  in farming in days gone by, and general observations on life and situations around them. £5 on the door, includes wine and cheese.

 

Family Hands: Weaving Threads in the Fabric of History: Monday 5th August Whitehead Centre Exhibition Space.

This talk looks at family histories which take us from Scotland to Ulster, Australia, Canada and the United States. It is based on articles written for the Ulster Scots newspaper over many years. Free entry.
